With our school year quickly coming to an end, students are working hard to wrap-up and solidify their learning on a variety of concepts like: fractions on a number line, the human skeleton, and book clubs! Our current math unit puts an emphasis on comparing and ordering fractions. Specifically, placing fractions in their correct location on a number line. For many, this can be a difficult concept as it requires an understanding of parts of a whole as well as estimating. We will continue with this into next week and also take our final unit assessment. In science, we have been learning about the human skeleton. Third graders attempted to estimate and then count the number of bones in the skull, legs and arms. This proved to be a difficult task, as there are 26 bones within the skull (including jaw) and 30 in each arm and leg (including hands and feet). Next week, we will be learning more about the skeletons of other mammals, and even dissect an owl pellet. Fun times to come! Third graders are also participating in their last book clubs of the year. Students eagerly chose their own books and have been so engaged in their reading thus far! We'll also be having a special read-in day soon. More information on that to come!
