It’s been an awesome week in third grade! This week, students did a fantastic job jumping back into their school routines and taking on challenges. In math this week, third graders reviewed attributes of quadrilaterals and area/perimeter questions. We also took some time to learn about the attributes and classifications of triangles, focusing on how important triangles are in architectural design and construction. In fact, students worked in groups to create their own structures composed of triangles. To test the success of their work, third graders stacked small weights on top of their buildings. Many toppled over, but the learning experience was still engaging and fun! In Reader’s Workshop, third graders prepared for the upcoming CMAS assessment by reviewing concepts like RACE responses, nonfiction text features, and using context clues. All students worked incredibly hard on their practice activities and are going into CMAS testing prepared to take on the challenge! Writer’s Workshop this week was focused on creative writing. Prior to Spring Break, third graders read a true story about three women who found themselves stranded in Death Valley. Students were amazed by their story of survival and were inspired to write tales of their own! Third graders were provided the prompt, “Imagine you have found yourself stranded in Death Valley. Write a journal entry about your experience thus far.” Students are doing a fabulous job writing detailed (and admittedly hilarious) entries. We’ll be sharing them next week! Comments are closed.
